Deciding on Artist Names

We had some trouble deciding on the name for our artist. We came up with a few and researched the meanings of them. Below, I will explain why we chose our final name "Alexus" and why we decided not to go with the other options.

Our first option: NIA
Meaning: "Although this female name has mainly Gaelic origins it is also influenced by African-Swahili languages, in which it means ‘purpose’.
Why we didnt choose it: As we wanted to portray our character as someone who was worthless and unimportant, we decided that the name Nia would not be suitable.

Our second option: XARA
Meaning: We were particularly interested in this name because its spelling is unique and because of its meaning. It means a variety of things. In French, it means Light. People with the name Xara are associated with happing a deep inner desire for love and companionship, and want to work with others to achieve peace and harmony. As you can see, this name would be perfect. But afte asking a few people of their opinion on it, they mentioned that it would be unoriginal because its pronounced "Za-ra" which is exactly the same as my name. So we scrapped this idea.

Our third option: DELILAH
Meaning:Delilah originates from a Hebrew word which means languishing, lovelorn and seductive. In the Bible, Delilah is known to be the woman who betrayed one of Gods people. Some more websites stated that the names means seductive. So for these reasons, we decided not to go with it as we wanted a name with a pure meaning.

Our fourth option: EMILE
Meaning: Emile is a male name of French origin whose meaning is trying to equal, excel or rival. The name is a variant of Emil which is Latin to mean eager. Our main character is portrayed as the complete opposite of these meanings so we wanted to choose a different name as we felt that this one did not suit her.

Our fifth and final option: ALEXUS
Meaning: The name Alexus is of Greek origin, it means "defender of mankind" as soon as we saw the meaning, we knew this was the name that we wanted. Our video to the song "read all about it" is about speaking up and being yourself even if the media is pressurizing you to look and feel a certain way. This is why we decided that it links to defending mankind, because the message being sent out in this video is to be yourself. The media is everywhere around the world and everyone is exposed to it.

What We Included In Our Digipak

Here are a list of things that we included on the back cover of our digipak:

Bar code

Blackberry Code

Music Company Logo

Different fonts for our digipak, magazine advert and Album cover

Choosing colour ideas for our digipak

When we were editing each photo we decided to use different colour ideas to see which would look better for our digipak. The reason for this is because we were pretty indecisive so we thought that trying out different types of colours would help us decide what our final decisions would be. We got inspirations from artists such as Emeli Sande and Alicia Keys.

In the end we decided that all our photos for the digipak should be black and white.

Feedback for our magazine advert and music video

As you can see, after we posted our music video to Facebook allowing my friends to see it, we got 20+ likes and 30+ comments in the space of a few hours. This shows the power of social media which is ironic because that is what our music video focuses on.
Almost all of the comments only said good things and had no criticism. The main criticism we received was to have more than one main character. If we were more organised right from the beginning and didn't leave the video till the last minute.  Then we probably would have been able to  incorporate another main character into the video.

Social networks we used were:

I asked some of my friends on Whatsapp about what they think of the of our magazine advert and these were their responses.
